Kansas City is taking over SXSW this year!  You heard us right! This year, the Midwest Music Foundation in conjunction with The Gusto Lounge, Record Bar, and Czar Bar are proud to sponsor the Officially Unofficial South By Southwest showcase “Midwasteland Takeover” March 18-20, 2pm-2am at The Canvas Bar & Gallery on 5th & Brazos in Austin, Texas.

Over 30 of some of Kansas City’s finest bands will make their way down to Austin to showcase their amazing talent on a national stage  right in the middle of the mother of all music festivals, South By Southwest.  We’re talking The Roman Numerals, Olympic Size, Capybara, Soft Reeds, Bent Left, Ces Cru, James Christos, The Grisly Hand, Bacon Shoe, The Thieves .. we could go on & on!!  There will also be some surprise national guest artists!! Kansas City’s own Gnarly Enterprises will be streaming live footage from the event.  And we here at the Midwest Music Foundation will be getting footage as well.

A compilation CD, sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon and curated by  Sonic Spectrum will be distributed at this event & all bands will have tracks available for download on the Midwasteland Takeover website.

Boulevard Beer and locally made custom guitar strap company, Jaykco, will also make the trek down to Texas.  Other local sponsors are being added as we speak to make this a true showcase of all the amazing products, services and talent Kansas City has to offer.

The Midwest Music Foundation is proud to support the DIY spirit of Kansas City’s intrepid and inspired music community, and encourages all traveling to SXSW this year to take a trip over to 5th & Brazos to see what the Heartland has to offer.
